08/22/2012 13 Weeks!

Here's a look at what the baby looks like thus far!
Baby Smith is full of surprises! We discovered that our little person has been occupying my uterus for 3 months now! First trimester over!
At the ultrasound yesterday (8/21/12), we got to see  baby Smith for the first time. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen! My eyes immediately welled up and all I could do was just stare at the pixelated figure twitching and stirring constantly. There, in front of me, was my baby! The image was so clear that we could see the spine, individual fingers and toes, and a profile view of the tiny nose and lips. The sonographer was trying to see the baby from different angles and at one point its little hand covered its face shyly. I giggled thinking, "wow, they must get that from Sean because I have always been a ham for the camera". The heart rate was 158bpm; according to old wives' tales this could mean a little boy coming next February!
Baby Smith is growing happily and healthily, which is all I can ask for! I'm growing, too! I'm sporting a cute baby bump and pants are especially tight these days. We don't have extra money to get me maternity clothes yet, and since the weather has been so hot, I've been dressing comfortably in loose fitting clothing for now. Morning sickness has turned into late afternoon sickness, but it's not very consistent (thank goodness!). I've been able to avoid getting sick by just learning what my body likes and doesn't like and at what times of the day it can tolerate certain foods and vice versa. Fatigue is very common, though. Grocery shopping and even cooking a meal is exhausting, but I've been trying to just stay active anyways. Many moms have advised that staying active is so important for so many reasons like making labor easier, losing the baby weight afterwards, and having more energy throughout the day. I'm always hungry, too! We've stocked our fridge with such healthy options, though. My favorite things to snack on is a ham and cheese sandwhich with lettuce, tomato, onion, light mayo, and cucumber with red grapes and a glass of milk! MMmmm :D If I'm not feeling well I snack on oyster crackers and drink water.
We applied for an apartment today, too! We're very excited to have our own place finally. Roommates have been a lot of fun and I'm glad I experienced that, but it is definitely time to have a place of our own to house our little family. I've been praying so much for this pregnancy to go normally and healthily, and so far we've been very blessed, but now I need to include a lot of prayer for us to get approved at this apartment! We don't want to be staying at the place we have now because we can't save money here and the roommates have already found someone ready to replace us. Hopefully all of our positive energy will make this process go smoothly. I hate moving!
There's the update on life with baby incoming!
